We all need a little help, push, prompt, or motivation when it comes to realising our dreams – whether that’s from family, friends, the universe, or even ourselves. It can be hard to find the drive to keep going some days, particularly when your goals might seem far away, but the right mindset can help to keep you firmly on track.
Earlier this month I talked to you about the incredible power of manifestation. Manifesting has, in no uncertain terms, completely transformed my life – and a huge part of that is visualisation. So, in this blog I’m going to share my top ten visualisation techniques that, when incorporated into your daily life, can help you to achieve your dreams, smash your goals, and step into your higher self.
Getting Started
If you’re new to visualisation work, it’s important to get a couple of things straight before you start:
Setting the Stage
Before diving into any of the exercises below, take a moment to create the right environment for visualisation. This involves finding a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be disturbed; if you live in a house with noisy kids, pets, or a partner, pop in your headphones to achieve that zen. When you’re ready, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to centre yourself – allowing any tension to melt away as you focus on the present moment.
Clarifying Your Goals
You can’t visualise your ideal life if you don’t know what that is, which means it's absolutely essential to have clarity about what you want to achieve. Take some time to reflect on your goals, both in life and at work. What do you truly desire? What does success look like to you? Write down your goals in specific, positive terms, and keep them handy for reference during the visualisation exercises below.
10 Visualisation Techniques to Help You Step into Your Higher Self
Ready to get started? Great, let’s dive in!
1. Guided Imagery: Imagery can be incredibly powerful. Listen to or read a script that guides you through a specific visualisation journey, such as imagining yourself in a peaceful forest or on a serene beach. This can help you to achieve the calm and clarity you need to take important steps in pursuit of your goals.
2. Future Self Visualisation: Envision yourself in the future, living your ideal life, and achieving your goals. Picture the intricate details of your surroundings, your accomplishments, and how you feel in that moment. This is super important for telling yourself that your dream life is achievable.
3. Goal Board Creation: What do your accomplishments look like? Where will your goals take you? Create a vision board or digital collage that visually represents your goals and aspirations. Include images, quotes, and symbols that inspire you and remind you of what you're working towards.
4. Daydreaming with Purpose: If you were ever told to stop daydreaming in school, your teachers were doing you a disservice! Daydreaming can help to inform clarity and direction. Set aside time each day to daydream about your desired outcomes. Allow your mind to wander freely, exploring different scenarios and possibilities related to your goals.
5. Mindful Visualisation: If one of your goals is to live a healthier, calmer, less stressful life, mindfulness techniques can help you to relax, let go of stress, and allow your mind to focus more effectively. Try to engage in deep breathing and body scanning, before visualising your newly calm self.
6. Positive Affirmations: It’s very powerful when you pair different visualisation techniques with positive affirmations that reinforce your belief in yourself, along with your ability to achieve your goals. Repeat affirmations as you visualise your desired outcomes. They could be anything from “I am loved; I am worthy” to “I will succeed at X.”
7. Sensory Visualisation: For a full-body experience, engage all of your senses during visualisation by imagining how your desired outcomes will look, sound, feel, smell, and taste. This creates a more immersive experience and strengthens the neural pathways associated with your goals.
8. Symbolic Imagery: Try using symbols or metaphors to represent your dreams, goals, and aspirations. For example, you could visualise yourself climbing a mountain to symbolise overcoming challenges, or imagine a blooming flower to represent personal growth and transformation.
9. Role Model Visualisation: Identify someone you admire or aspire to be like and visualise yourself embodying their qualities and achievements. This doesn’t mean that anyone is better than you, or you’re trying to be someone you’re not; it simply helps you to tap into your own potential and emulate the traits that will help you to succeed.
10. Gratitude Visualisation: As well as gratitude journalling, gratitude visualisation (much like manifesting) can attract the right things in your journey. Reflect on what you're grateful for in your life and visualise more good fortune coming your way in the future. This positive mindset can attract abundance and foster a sense of contentment and fulfilment.
Post-Visualisation: Reflect and Adjust
After each visualisation session, take a moment to reflect on any insights or emotions that may have cropped up along the way. Are there any obstacles or limiting beliefs that you need to address? What could be standing in your way? Adjust your visualisation practice as needed to stay aligned with your goals and aspirations.
It’s also good to experiment with different visualisation techniques and tailor them to suit your own unique preferences and goals. Consistency and intention are key to harnessing the full power of visualisation and manifesting your dreams into an achievable reality.
